PROF. HELEN ASEMOTA, PhD

Professor Helen Nosakhare Asemota (nee Obasuyi) is Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the West Indies (UWI) where she is noted for her excellence in teaching, research, scholarly activities, and public service, with an admirable record of training of young adults to acquire and excel in research skills and practice. She has over 25 years collective experience of dedicated university teaching and research in the fields of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and recently, Nanotechnology. She developed many undergraduate and postgraduate level courses as well as various biotechnology and biomedical research programmes. She also served on secondment as Professor of Biology at Shaw University, North Carolina, USA in various capacities: Head of Nanobiology Division of the Shaw Nantechnology initiative, the Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Research Centre – NNRC (2005-2009); Biological Sciences’ Programme Coordinator (2009-2010); Chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB, 2006-2009); Senator, Shaw Faculty Senate (2007-2011); Core Director of Faculty Research Development in the Shaw University NIH- Research Infrastructure for Minority Institutions – RIMI project (2010-2012); as Shaw University IRB Administrator (2010-2012); and as PI of the Shaw in Jamaica MoN Project, an NIH MHIRT Grant that involved Prostate Cancer Research training internship at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica for African American students (2010 & 2011). She has taught at undergraduate, graduate/postgraduate and postdoc levels in different parts of the world and is very much liked by her local and international students. She has, to date, supervised more than 25 PhD students in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, and introduced over 100 undergraduate students to research. She is well-published with over 300 publications (in International Refereed Journals, book chapters, newsletters, technical reports, conference abstracts, and four patents). She has taught some 30,000 students worldwide.

Professor Asemota originates from Nigeria where she taught at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU, 1980-1983) and the University of Benin (1983-1990) before proceeding on diplomatic posting to Jamaica with her husband in 1990. While at ABU, she was instrumental to the setting up of the preliminary science programme to enhance local generation of science teachers at the ABU’s Advanced Teachers’ College and was the first person employed specifically for the initiation of the programme (1980-1983). She attended St. Maria Goretti High School in Benin-City, the University of Benin for BSc. Degree (1978); the Ahmadu Bello University for MSc in Biochemistry (1982), and her PhD in Biochemistry Degree (1990) was acquired from a collaborative arrangement between the University of Benin in Nigeria and Frankfurt University in Germany under the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD), that funded her PhD research in Germany. Her postdoc trainings in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology were obtained at Frankfurt (Germany) and Chicago (USA) Universities with UWI, European Union, and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funds.

MR. BAMIDELE EDOKPAYI, ESQ.

Mr. Edokpayi is the principal partner in Dele Edokpayi & CO since 1989. Prior to this he was an Associate Solicitor at C. I. Akhere & CO. Mr. Edokpayi earned his law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1982 and subsequently graduated for the Nigerian Law School in 1983.
His business interests include MACFRANKLYN ENGINEERING SERVICES Limited, Warri where he is the chairman, NOBLES VENTURES Limited, Benin City as the Managing Director/CEO, Chairman, CIRCULAR COMMUNITY BANK Limited, Benin City, and the Managing Director/CEO of PRESTIGE AGRO &ALLIED SERVICES Limited, Benin City.

Mr. Edokpayi is a member of many associations including the NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL of the NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION, ROTARY CLUB of Benin, and the BENINCLUB. His hobbies include athletics and traveling. His charitable efforts have no boundaries.

Mr. Edokpayi is married with children.

DR. MATTHEW I. EGBE

Dr. Matthew I. Egbe holds a PhD in chemistry (Organic/Polymer) from Mississippi State University. He also obtained a BS degree from Southern University in Chemistry/Physics.  He has an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from MIT Sloan School of Management. Dr. Egbe started his professional career as a post-doctoral fellow in Polymer Chemistry at Mississippi State University and later at Louisiana State University. He was also a fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Dr. Egbe later joined the faculty of Southern University as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and was later promoted to Associate Professor of Chemistry.

Dr. Egbe then left Southern University for an industrial career as a Senior Research Scientist at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts. At Polaroid, he spent five years synthesizing and developing polymeric materials for manufacturing instant photography films. After seven years at Polaroid, he took the position of Research Manager at MicroChem Corporation to help synthesize and develop chemicals for manufacturing a new generation of semiconductor devices. Dr. Egbe was then invited to take the position of Senior Process Engineer in the Semiconductor System Division of Eaton Corporation. His role was developing plasma chemistry process for fabricating semiconductors.

Dr. Egbe then moved to Pennsylvania to take the position of Senior Staff Development Chemist at Ashland Chemical Company. In this position, he helped synthesize and develop chemicals for different semiconductor companies such as Intel, Samsung, etc. He was then promoted to R&D Manager. In that role, he managed all aspects of Ashland’s global R&D in support of the Back End of Line (BOEL) high-value post etched strippers and cleaners. On the acquisition of Ashland’s Electronics Chemical Division by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc, Dr. Egbe assumed the role of Technology Manager of the Electronics Division of Air Products which is responsible for developing post-etch stripping chemicals for manufacturing semiconductor devices.

He has given technical presentations to the following companies:

Dr. Egbe has authored over eight papers in professional technical journals. He has been granted over 10 United States patents of which four have led to currently sold commercial products. He is very active in his professional associations, specifically The American Chemical Society (ACS) and The Electro-Chemical Society (ECS).

Dr. Egbe is married to Ehime Egbe (nee Iwere).

CHRIS O. IGODAN, PhD

Chris O. Igodan is a professor of Agriculture and International Development in the Department of Extension And Leader International Extension Programs, Ohio State University Extension, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the Ohio State university, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He is also President and CEO of a not-for-profit organization, IITD (Institute for International Training and Development). IITD has a nonprofit mission of developing capacity for Africa. From September 2014 – December 2015, he served as a visiting professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Services, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.

Between 1985 – 1992, he worked as a lecturer, then senior lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He served (2000 – 2004) as Director and Associate Dean, College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Ohio State University. In the same period (2000 – 2004), he served as campus director of the Ohio State University Wooster Campus – Agricultural Technical Institute, (OSU – ATI) based in Wooster, Ohio. Between the years, 1996 – 2000, he was Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Fort Hare, Alice, South Africa. He has held visiting professorship position at the Norwegian Centre for International Environment and Development Studies, Norway as well as post–doctoral research associate (1992 – 1994) at the International Livestock Research Institute, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A Salzburg alumnus and fellow, Professor Igodan is a member of the Africa Regional Advisory Committee on sustainability and development, a past member of the board of Evihdaf-Evidence for Sustainable Human Development Systems in Africa, served on the board of advisors of Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW) and served as a director and board member of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization–Americas (NIDOA). He obtained BS./MS. Degrees in Agronomy/Crop Science, (Northwest Missouri State University) and a PhD in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology at the Ohio State University.

DR. TONNIE O. IREDIA PhD, OON

Dr. Tonnie O. Iredia is a humanist, thinker, political analyst, veteran broadcast journalist, lawyer and public administrator. He attended St James Primary School Benin City, Loyola College Ibadan and the Universities of Ibadan, London, Benin, Nsukka and Abuja and obtained certificates in Communication, Journalism and Management in addition to two Bachelors, one (1) Masters and two (2) Doctorates. In the 1985/6 session, he was the best graduating Student in Public Law and also best graduating student in Business Law, at the University of Benin.

He began his media career as a reporter with the Midwest Television now NTA Benin and rose through the ranks to the exalted position of Chief Executive Officer/ Director General of 2 federal government organizations-the National Orientation Agency NOA and the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA. In 1987, he was deployed to the defunct National Electoral Commission(NEC) as Director of Public Affairs where he served as the spokesman of the electoral body which conducted what is internationally reputed to be the fairest and freest election in Nigeria-June 12 1993. He was later seconded by the Nigerian Government to ECOWAS to serve as Technical Expert on Elections and Coordinator of Political Broadcasts for the first post civil war election in Liberia in 1997.

As Director General of the National Orientation Agency, he was also a member of the Government Committee on the Management of Industrial Crises and Publicity Chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Committee in 2003. He made his greatest impact in broadcasting where as Chief Executive Officer of Africa’s largest TV network; he was publicly rated as “a brilliant and devastating international television interviewer” He was indeed the creator of NTA International-a channel designed to redress Media Imperialism and situate Nigeria in the map of the new world information order.

In 2004, he was selected by 2 Nigerian Universities to deliver their convocation lectures-thus serving as the 18th Convocation Lecturer of the University of Maiduguri and later in the year as the first Convocation Lecturer of the Benson Idahosa University in Benin City.

He won many laurels during his working career. They include: the Nelson Mandela Public Service Leadership Prize, 2004; the Nigerian Media Merit Award (2005) and led the NTA to win the ‘This Day Award as Best Government Agency of the year’ (2006). He also won the Chief Executive of the year award (2007), the Benson Idahosa prize on Innovative Leadership (2008) and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Electronic Media Development (2010).

Tonnie belongs to several professional bodies among them: the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Nigerian Bar Association. He is also a Fellow of the Auchi Polytechnic, the Society for Peace Studies and Practice, the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

DR. THOMAS A. ISEKENEGBE

Dr. Thomas A. Isekenegbe, Cumberland County College’s sixth President, is continuing to promote “working collaboratively to achieve great goals” as the college moves forward – working with the community – to implement its 2012-2017 Strategic Plan, which
stresses student engagement and completion, workforce and economic development, and leadership and service learning.

“I’m very proud of how we all work together to make our college a vibrant place where students really do get opportunities to change their lives forever,” Dr. Isekenegbe said. “We must ensure that the college continues to offer reasonably priced, quality higher education that’s close to home. This is so important because educated residents dramatically enhance economic development by providing essential professional services
and community leadership.”

Dr. Isekenegbe served as CCC’s Interim President from June 2009 until his appointment as President in December 2009. He was CCC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs and Enrollment Services from 2002 to 2009. Dr. Isekenegbe has also held senior administrative positions at Hudson County Community College, Coastal Carolina University and Sussex County Community College.

On the statewide level, Dr. Isekenegbe is a member of the Academic Issues Committee of the New Jersey Presidents’ Council (NJPC), and he chairs the Academ

Locally, Dr. Isekenegbe is active in many community organizations, including the South Jersey Healthcare Board of Trustees, the Vineland Rotary and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Cumberland County.

Dr. Isekenegbe holds a Ph.D. and Ed.S. in curriculum and instruction from Indiana State.

DR. KATHY LECHMAN

Kathy Lechman is currently the Associate Director for the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. In her prior role with the university she served as Assistant Dean and Director of Equity and Inclusion for the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in 2015 from the College of Education and Human Ecology where her dissertation focused on examining the influence of student perception of instructor cultural intelligence, sense of belonging and intent to persist. She has a Master of Arts degree in Conflict Resolution from the McGregor School of Antioch University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the College of Wooster. Kathy has been with OSU for 17 years with prior experience at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, the Ohio Department of Youth Services, and the Cleveland Municipal Schools. Throughout her career, she has focused on mediation, conflict resolution, personnel development, career development, mentoring, and creating and implementing strategies to address workforce diversity. She has served as the interim executive director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity and as interim associate director of the Center for Higher Education Enterprise.

During her time in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, she developed and created numerous professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. She was instrumental in the implementation of the Diversity Leadership Symposium that brought together multiple units across campus to provide quality professional development to faculty, staff, and students. Kathy is an experienced mediator, facilitator and trainer. In her role as Director of Equity and Inclusion, she provides counsel to faculty and staff, oversees professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion while working closely with the Senior Associate Dean and the Associate Dean of Academics.

DR. ANTHONY O. OKORODUDU

Dr. Anthony O. Okorodudu obtained his doctorate degree in Pathology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University – The State University of New Jersey. He also holds an MS degree in Management, Computing, and Systems from Houston Baptist University, Texas, and an MBA degree from Rice University, Houston, Texas. He completed his fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Okorodudu is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow of the Association of Diagnostic and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Okorodudu started his professional career at the University of Benin, College of Medicine, Department of Chemical Pathology where he was Lecturer I from 1982-1986. In 1986, he proceeded to Hartford Hospital/University of Connecticut Health Center for his fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry. On completion of the fellowship, he remained with Hartford Hospital as a Staff Immunochemist in the Department of Pathology until the end of 1988. In January 1989, he joined the University of Texas System and was promoted to the academic rank of Distinguished Professor of Pathology in 2001. His other responsibilities (clinical and administrative) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) include Director for:

Dr. Okorodudu is currently a member of the Executive Council at UTMB. His other key committee services for UTMB in recent years include – chair, Scientific Integrity Committee; member, Faculty Senate; member, Academic Progress Committee; member, Faculty Compensation Committee; member, Faculty Appointments, Promotion and Tenure Committee; co-chair, Pathology Strategic Planning Committee, and member, Search Committee (Chair, Department of Pathology; Chair, Internal Medicine; Chief Physician Executive UTMB Faculty Practice). In his role as a member of faculty at the UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, he has chaired/supervised the PhD dissertations for several students (including one each from University of Benin and University of Ibadan). Other trainees include 100+ pathology residents and twelve postdoctoral fellows in Clinical Chemistry. He is an accomplished and widely published author as indicated by publication of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, chapters, and abstracts. He is actively involved in research for the advancement of clinical laboratory medicine. His research focus is in the elucidation of the pathophysiology of intracellular ions in the pathology of drug-drug interactions, pre-eclampsia, and type II diabetes. He continues to disseminate advances in clinical chemistry profession as indicated by his presentations in conferences held in United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Sweden, Kenya, Italy, China, Singapore, Thailand, Egypt, Mexico, Poland, United Arab Emirate, South Africa and Nigeria in recent 30 years. At the 2001 2nd Annual Conference of the Nigerian Association for Clinical Chemistry, he presented a paper entitled “Impact of Clinical Laboratory on the National Economy” and proposed several recommendations for the enhancement of the practice of clinical chemistry in Nigeria. Again in 2018, he proposed options for sustainable clinical laboratory services for African countries when he visited University of Benin as a Visiting Professor.

Dr. Okorodudu is very active in his professional associations, especially the Association of Diagnostic and Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) where he served on the Board of Directors from 2002 – 2006. He is also active in the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and served as the first chair of the Committee on Point of Care Testing. Other international professional involvements include reviewer for several medical/scientific journals and service on the Board of Editors for the following journals: Clinical Laboratory News, Clinica Chimica Acta, POCT, Pediatric Biochemistry, and Open Clinical Chemistry. His professional accomplishments have been widely recognized with awards that include the “2001 Distinguished Alumni Award” from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey . He is also the recipient of the “Role Model Award” from Minority Access, Inc. (in cooperation with the Office of Minority Health, National Institute of Health), the Texas AACC Clinical Chemist Award (1999), and several teaching awards. As a distinguished clinical chemist, he has served on several committees for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and Scientific Advisory Boards for several companies. In 2011, Dr. Okorodudu was appointed by the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to serve a 3-year term in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC). CLIAC, provides scientific and technical advice and guidance to the Secretary, US Department of Health and Human Services for all issues related to quality assurance, quality control, personnel, proficiency testing, maintenance of records, equipment, and facilities by all clinical laboratories in the United States (Section 353 (42 U.S.C Section 263a) of the Public Health Services Act). Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Okorodudu enjoys spending quality time with his family. He has been married since 1978 to former Ms. Osatohanmwen Uhimwen of the Ezomo family of Benin. The couple is blessed with four children and ten grandchildren.

AMBASSADOR SHOLA OMOREGIE

Former Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Guinea-Bissau and Head of the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS).
Ambassador Shola Omoregie is founder and Chief Operating Officer of the Africa Peace Support, LLC. A former career diplomat at the United Nations, Ambassador Omoregie is an expert on the United Nations Security Council and peace operations having had a dedicated and distinguished service at the United Nations spanning over three decades.He recently led an International Team of Consultants to review ten African Union Liaison Offices/Missions in Africa (January – March 2010).
From October 2006 – December 2008, he served as the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Guinea-Bissau and Head of United Nations Peace-building Support office in Guinea-Bissau (UNOGBIS). Prior to this, he was Chief of Branch of the United Nations Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch in the Security Council Affairs Division of the Department of Political Affairs.

As a member of the UN Task Force on Assistance to the African Union (from 2003 – 2005), he assisted the African Union in the establishment of the modalities for the operation of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), including the drafting of the rules of procedure of the PSC and preparation of the working methods of the Council.

Ambassador Omoregie joined the United Nations system in 1978 as the first Resident Representative of the United Nations Commissioner for Namibia in Botswana. He subsequently served in various capacities at the UN, including as Representative of the United Nations Commissioner for Namibia in Angola (1988-1990); Secretary of the UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (1992-1994); in 1992, he accompanied Cyrus Vance, Special Representative of UN Secretary-General, on Security Council mandated mission to South Africa to assist in bringing an end to the violence and in creating a peaceful transition to a democratic, non-racial and united South Africa; and in 1994, he served as a United Nations observer during the first multi-party and democratic elections in South Africa; and he was Secretary of two subsidiary organs (Sanctions Committees) of the UN Security Council (1992-1995).

He served in the Foreign Service of Nigeria since June 1972 and rose to the rank of Ambassador. He served in an extensive number of roles in the Foreign Service, including at Nigerian diplomatic missions in Beijing (China), London, and later in Liverpool, England, UK, as the Area Officer of Nigeria. He is widely travelled, and has made presentations before the United Nations Security Council, and at conferences, meetings and seminars, covering issues of national and international security.

He was educated at the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria where he earned a B.Sc (Honours) in Psychology.

MRS. THELMA OVIASU, ESQ.

Mrs Thelam N. Oviasu, ESQ had her BA honors from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria, an M.PS. from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York and a J.D. from St. Johns University, New York, USA.
Ms. Oviasu started her Law career with the Center For Transnational Corporations at the United Nations. She later joined the Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S) as an Estate Tax Attorney. She is now in private practice as a Corporate and Immigration attorney. She is a consultant for international corporations looking to invest in Africa. She is the founder and CEO of LIXTEL GROUP INC. USA.

DR. (MRS.) JOYCE UGOCHUKWU

Dr. Joyce Ugochukwu was born in Warri to the Egbejule Family of Ugbangue in Warri, Delta State. Joyce started her education in Warri and later gained admission to the Anglican Girls Grammar School, Benin City, in present day Edo State, from 1967 to 1971. In her final year, she was the Head Girl of the school. For her Higher School Certificate, she attended Edo College, Benin City, from 1972 to 1974. She thereafter gained admission into the University of Lagos, where she studied Medicine from 1975 to 1979, graduating with an MBBS degree.
Following her graduation, she served as an intern at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) from 1979 to 1980, before completing her Youth Service at the Federal Housing Authority Clinic, Festac Town between 1980 and 1981. From 1981 to 1983, she worked as a Medical Officer at the Nigeria Ports Authority, Tin Can Island Clinic. Between 1983 and 1987, she studied at the Royal College of Hygiene and Public Health, obtaining a post-graduate Diploma in Public Health. From 1987 to 1990, Dr. Ugochukwu worked as a Medical Officer at the Holy Trinity Hospital, Ikeja. An industrious woman by nature, Dr. Ugochukwu established the Hugo Medical Centre in Ikeja in 1990, of which she is currently the Medical Director. Between 1999 and 2001, Dr. Ugochukwu served as the National Immunization Day Coordinator for the National Programme of Immunization (NPI) in Abia, Benue, Imo, Kano and Nasarawa States. She also served as an NID consultant to the World Health Organization between 2001 and 2002.
Dr. Ugochukwu has always been keen in rendering selfless services through her medical profession. Consequently, she established an NGO, the Eje Foundation in memory of her late mother-in-law, to cater for the primary health needs of the people in the rural areas of the country. The NGO became operational in January 2003 and has since catered for the basic health needs of thousands of people in the rural areas in Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers and Lagos States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory. Eje Foundation has also been active in promoting the welfare of the poor, the motherless and the widows.
Dr. Ugochukwu’s commitment to her professional calling attracted the attention of the former First Lady, Late Chief (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo, who appointed her as a Home Committee member of the Child Care Trust, an NGO founded by Her Excellency to cater for the hearing impaired, physically and mentally challenged children under 15. Currently Dr. Ugochukwu is actively involved in keeping the Child Care Trust alive and thriving.
Since 2001, she has been a member of Methodist Cathedral of Unity, Abuja. In 2010, she was trained as an Evangelist of the Methodist Church of Abuja. She was given the Susan Wesley Award in 2011 in recognition of her meritorious and dedicated service to God and humanity. She is currently serving as a Church Steward in the Methodist Cathedral of Unity, Abuja
Dr. Ugochukwu is married to her husband, Onyema Ugochukwu. Their marriage is blessed with four children.
